Context Diagramming Workshop

Context Diagramming Workshop

This workshop is composed of two half-day portions. While they may be combined into a full day workshop, typically they are spread over two days.

INTRODUCTION TO CONTEXT DIAGRAMMING

Build a new kind of project map that supports you to move your project forward with confidence. See your whole project on a page, and a complete picture of all your stakeholders with information flow. We’ll teach you a fast diagramming technique that will support more complete creation of: program charters, project charters, scope statements, stakeholder lists, change management plans, deliverable descriptions, information flow, communication plans and learning plans. Also shows where effort should be concentrated and what groups might have more dependencies or require more attention.

In this introductory workshop you will learn to:

  • Understand how a Project Context Diagram can help project definition and scope statements, risk reduction, estimates and funding exercises
  • Build Project Context Maps based on exercises and case studies
  • Maintain the Map as the project evolves, and drive changes to other artifacts
  • Ideas on how to use the map to support the 9 knowledge areas

COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE

NOTE: You cannot attend this workshop if you have not attended the introductory session.

In this workshop you will learn to:

  • Project Contexting for the PMBOK Guide — This installment will be all about the Project Integration knowledge area. We'll cover ideas for charter creation. A new job aid is included.
  • Project Contexting for Deliverables Discovery — We'll have a group discussion on deliverables: different kinds of deliverables, and how to find them on your context diagram, and interim deliverables vs. end products. A new job aid is included.
  • Practice Project Triage — We'll be selecting at least one project for group triage. One participant will facilitate, and then the group will assist. In the end, participants will walk away with a context diagram facilitated by the instructor, built by experts in the industry.
  • Round Table Issues and Problems
